The impact of Leadership on the Environment

Major: Strategic Leadership

Hometown: Garden City, MI

ABSTRACT

What does it mean to be a leader dedicated to the environment? Using skills taught throughout the Strategic Leadership program at Rochester University (RU), this paper explores the many different types of leadership styles and concepts and how to apply them to making an environmental difference. Looking at unique ways that the courses on leadership encourage positive results for the planet can propel conservation efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Incorporating different components that have been identified as strong leadership skills helps to show the impact that can be made from a less traditionally viewed lens. Navigating through such practices as the Kotter’s 8 stage model for leadership and The Arbinger Institute’s Getting Out of the Box concepts and environmental practices applied from the general and elective courses alike show the changes that can be made from the array of skillsets leaders are taught. Concluding that differences can be made for the planet and mankind with the support of proven leadership techniques and principals.
