ABSTRACT
The purpose of creating a Philosophy of Education is to convey professional values of teaching. This philosophy of education statement focuses on the impact of language and culture on children’s development and promoting cultural diversity through a climate of acceptance, inclusion, and engagement. There are many children in the United States who come from other countries and English is their second language. Educators must know the fundamentals of teaching children with diverse learning needs because many classrooms are likely to have children with different cultural backgrounds who come from different parts of the world. All children learn differently, especially children who do not have English as their primary language. When a teacher creates a lesson plan that incorporates diversity into the classroom, all children feel more comfortable in the environment. It is important to allow children to develop in different areas such as physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively in age appropriate ways. Promoting a climate of acceptance, inclusion, and engagement with diverse languages and cultures is also beneficial to the children who are primary English speakers because it allows them to use their imagination and learn about different parts of the world and learn about diversity. A teacher’s role is to create a safe and healthy environment for all the children and their families.
