MIT offers a variety of paid and unpaid leave of absence options to help support employees. The Institute grants paid leave to its benefits-eligible employees to guard against loss of earnings due to injury or illness, and provides paid parental and bonding leave for new parents.
Sick/Medical Leaves- support staff who cannot work because of their own serious illness or who need time off to care for a family member who has a serious illness.
Maternity and Parental Leaves- support employees who are giving birth, recovering from child birth, or who have recently become new parents (includes birth parents, adoptive parents, and foster parents ).
Information on the various types of paid leave available can be found here.
Unpaid leaves-voluntary leaves of absence without pay may be granted for a specified period of time, normally for educational or public service reasons and because the Institute wishes to maintain an association with the individual.
