J-PAL North America is committed to prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our internal and external work. We know that our work is better when it is informed by diverse perspectives. We recognize that there is a lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of economics and in our field of work, and we are taking action to address this. Read more about what actions we are taking to address this on J-PAL's website:
DEI Working Group
Additionally, J-PAL has established a DEI Working Group (DEIWG) comprised of staff across different levels of seniority and verticals to ensure we continue to advance this work and hold ourselves accountable. Participation in the DEIWG is based on staff interest, organizational need and available bandwidth. DEIWG members are asked to fill their position for one fiscal year, often with the option to recommit in their same or new position for future years. Interest forms are sent out near the end of each fiscal year to all staff. Please talk to your manager if you are interested in participating in the DEIWG in the future.

Climate Survey
The Special Projects Committee runs the Climate Survey once every two years (on the off years of MIT’s Quality of Life Survey). These surveys ask all staff members to anonymously respond to questions about their experience working at J-PAL North America. The purpose of the Climate Survey is to:
Obtain information from our staff about their experience working at J-PAL North America
Learn about areas where we are doing well and areas where we can continue to improve
See what, if any, changes are occurring in the staff experience year over year
Gain insight into staff experience and how/if it varies across various identities and teams
Results are reported at an all staff meeting and the cross-vertical discusses the results and identifies strategies for improvement. The results from the latest Climate Survey are below.
