MIT's compensation and benefits policies distinguish different employment classifications. At J-PAL North America, staff generally fall under the following classifications:
Sponsored Research Technical Staff - Staff holding technical positions within the Policy and Research vertical (e.g. Policy Associate, Research Manager, etc.)
Sponsored Research Administrative Staff - Staff holding exempt (salaried) positions in administrative functions (e.g. finance, development, HR, IT, etc.)
Sponsored Research Support Staff - Staff holding non-exempt (hourly) positions

Please note that most policies described here are applicable to individuals employed through MIT. They do not apply to independent contractors - who are funded through a separate process with MIT Finance - or to interns and other temporary employees - who are employed through nextSource, Inc.
