In 1804, an event took place that shook the nation. Founding Father and former Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton was shot and killed. And this was not a suprise attack or accident. He agreed to take part in a duel. He stood across from another man, each holding a pistol, and they fired at each other.
Alexander Hamilton died that day. But what was surprising was that his opponent wasn't some thug off the New York streets. It was Aaron Burr, the Vice President of the United States under President Thomas Jefferson.
How could this happen? How did these powerful men get to the point where they were willing to risk their lives in a duel? Who shot first? And is it true, as some people say, that Hamilton actually missed on purpose?
For this Crime Scene Investigation, you will examine various sources to uncover the evidence behind this shocking event in American History. You will examine the motives, the rivalry, and the details surrounding the actual shooting. Then you will make a final judgment if you think Hamilton missed on purpose.
