What's not to like? They bring energy and a willingness to engage in discussion. They often have strong opinions that help drive strong conversations in the classroom. They are also in the process of learning what kind of values they want to have. It's fun to see stepping in to the type of person who will shape their communities some day.
The people we study weren't much different than us. Yet their actions and the values they held helped shape this nation. It's fun to look at who they were as individuals, because ultimately their character is really what drove them toward the decisions they made. I love examining how our nation has evolved. We are a far cry from being a perfect country, past and present, but there is a lot to be proud of.

Middle schoolers are usually just as weird as I am... Probably weirder. They have such a love and pure joy of figuring out how the world around them works. I enjoy stepping into the chaos of a middle school classroom. I get to watch and help middle school students figure out who they are and who they have been called to be!
You can learn so much about our present and our future from our history. I feel that there are figures throughout time that I am able to relate with and I enjoy learning about what made them unique while they lived. I seek to learn everything I can from our history so that we can learn from our mistakes, and so that we can continue to make steps in the right direction as we prove why we are the greatest nation on the planet.
