Wall of Fame or Wall of Shame?
Christopher Columbus is known throughout the world as the explorer who discovered America. Thousands of streets, towns, cities, and counties are named after him in the U.S., and we even celebrate a Columbus Day every year in October (October 14th this year).
Yet many historians have questioned whether or not the man deserves the praise. For our first "Wall of Fame" debate we will be examining the good, the bad, and the ugly with this controversial figure.
Next week we will bring Columbus to the American History court and debate the pros and cons associated with his life. After our debate, each student will vote on the following question: "Does Columbus deserve to be put on the Wall of Fame or Wall of Shame?"
