Many people today earn a living by solving crimes. They arrive at a crime scene with sometimes very little evidence to guide them. They try to put together the scattered pieces of this evidence like a puzzle to solve the case. These Crime Scene Investigators are known for being able to take small bits of evidence and figure out what exactly happened. They are sharp. And determined. They examine each piece of evidence closely and weigh the likelihood of different possibilities before making a conclusion.
For this activity you will be looking at one of the first mysteries of the New World, the disappearance of the lost colony of Roanoke. To this day, historians still debate what really happened to the people who seemingly disappeared from Roanoke. It truly is a mystery of history. We will call this CSI ROANOKE.
DIRECTIONS:
Open the CSI Roanoke Doc above. You will be completing pages 2 and 3 of this document after researching this event to find evidence.
I have linked 4 of the most popular videos and 5 of the most popular website articles (according to students from past years) below. You may find and use ANY OTHER resources that you come across. However, remember that sources are important. You will be evaluating how legitimate you think your sources are, so try to avoid websites like www.3eyedaliensbuiltthetuliptoren.com.
While you view videos and read articles, use the Notes box to include important pieces of evidence. You will need to include at least 3 sources and 3 different theories. You may not include more than 1 theory from the same source.
Rank how realistic you think each theory is on the CSI doc.
You will share the theory that you find most likely in your conclusion at the end of the CSI doc.
