Practicum and Intern Counselors are required to complete the following before they will be permitted to see clients. All incomplete requirements must be resolved prior to the start of Practicum or risk delays.
*CCC counselors should note that the Clinic Coordinator will not schedule practicum or intern counselors clients until all preclinical requirements are complete. The Clinic Coordinator will not be responsible for reminders or verifications that preclinical requirements have been met.*
Preclinical Course Requirements for All Specialties: COUN 530 Introduction to Psychiatric Diagnoses, COUN 541 Introduction to Counseling, COUN 551 Theories and Interventions I, COUN 567 Using Tests in Counseling, COUN 566 Appraisal Instruments, COUN 509 Practicum: ETC Group, COUN 569 Developmental Foundations of Counseling, COUN 570 Legal and Ethical Issues, COUN 585 Diagnosis and Treatment Planning.
Preclinical Counseling Requirement:
Participate in the required 10 hour Experiential Training Clinic (ETC), plus an additional 10 hours of your own personal individual or group counseling. This requirement must be met prior to enrollment in Practicum. Provide the documentation at the mandatory practicum orientation or by the first week of Practicum.
Preclinical Orientation Requirements:
All counselors-in-training must attend their respective practicum or internship orientation and trainings jointly held by the Community Counseling Clinic and the Department of Counselor Education's Practicum and Internship Coordinator. Attendance is required to see clients.
Failure to attend these orientations and trainings without prior approval will result in postponement of clients being scheduled to the counselor-in-training until an individual orientation and training can take place.
Preclinical Training Requirements:
All practicum and intern counselors must attend or complete trainings as directed by the Community Counseling Clinic before clients will be referred. Please see Clinic Training & Orientation for further information on pre-clinical training requirements.
Criminal Background Check:
A successful criminal background check must be obtained before the start of the program.
Liability Insurance:
All practicum and intern counselors must obtain liability insurance prior to seeing clients.
