* While Telehealth services are offered, communication with clients via restricted numbers and PDX.EDU email will be permitted. Whenever possible, communication with clients should be facilitated through the clinic by emailing clinic@pdx.edu. However, counselors can also contact their clients via restricted number (*67) or by using the PDX.EDU email only.*
The Community Counseling Clinic recommends that counselors take particular care to monitor their online presence. Clients can access an abundance of information about their counselors with fairly common and basic search tools. Please take care to monitor your internet presence, paying particular attention to social media (i.e. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.). You can consult your Practicum Instructor and/or Peer Supervisor about how to address unsolicited communication invitations from clients if they do occur.
Incidents of client and/or community practitioner complaints to the Clinic Director or Department of Counselor Education regarding an counselors' online posts, scope of practice, and conduct do and have occurred, so please be mindful of your online use.
The principal mode of contact between counselors and clients should be through the Community Counseling Clinic (CCC) telephone. The CCC provides two telephone lines for student use when contacting their clients, both located in the Clinic Office.
Practicum counselors will need to request access to the Clinic Office from their Practicum Instructors.
CCC counselors must observe the ACA Code of Ethics' minimum disclosure (B.2.e) standard when contacting clients. When necessary to contact clients, the counselor will disclose only the minimum and essential information to accomplish the objective of the phone call.
In case of emergencies, where the counselor is unable to contact the client through the clinic phones, the counselor may contact the Clinic Director to communicate with clients.Â
In the event that the Clinic Director is unavailable, or the clinic closes due to university closure, the counselor may contact the client via their personal cell phone using *67, then the number, to encode the phone call. This option should only be used as a last resort or in the event of emergencies.
Once Community Counseling Clinic counselors complete their practicum or internship, they should have no further contact with clients they may have seen during their practicum or internship experience. CCC counselors contacted by their clients should immediately direct them to contact the Community Counseling Clinic at (503) 725-4620 to set up any further appointment or inquire about further information.
