Counselors in the Community Counseling Clinic (CCC) are considered mandated reporters. Mandated reporters are generally people who come into contact with children as part of their employment, practice of their profession, and, sometimes, as volunteers in child-serving programs; and individuals who are required by law to report suspected child abuse. Mandated reporters are often the only link between a child and safety from abuse. Additionally, the ACA Code of Ethics (2014) requires counselor to breach confidentiality in the event of serious and foreseeable harm and legal requirements, contagious life-threatening diseases, and court-ordered disclosure. For further information, see the State of Oregon's Mandatory Reporting website.
The CCC follows the proceeding policy regarding Mandatory Reporting:
CCC counselors must consult their Practicum Instructor or Clinic Director immediately should they suspect child abuse or neglect, or become knowledgable of a home environment that is harmful to the child.
CCC counselors must consult their Practicum Instructor or Clinic Director immediately should they suspect elder abuse or neglect, or become knowledgable of a home environment that is harmful to the elderly person.
CCC counselors must consult their Practicum Instructor or Clinic Director should immediately should they suspect abuse of a person with a disability, or become knowledgeable of a home environment that is harmful to the person with a disability.
