As part of Portland State University's Department of Counselor Education, the Community Counseling Clinic endorses effective and present counselor dispositions for learning and student conduct.
Community Counseling Clinic counselors are expected to:
End their sessions on time, regardless of when clients arrive for their appointments.
Dress in a manner that is not distracting for clients and colleagues and an aptitude for the important clinical work that you will be conducting as counselors. Overly casual dress will not be tolerated, as counselors represent the face of the Community Counseling Clinic.
Maintain confidentiality in all spaces within and outside the Department of Counselor Education. Discussing clients or clinic work outside the counseling office or group supervision is grounds for disciplinary action and a breach of the Code of Ethics.
Respect the values and beliefs of their clientele, while working to uphold the tenets of equity and justice central to the Community Counseling Clinic and Department of Counselor Education.
Counselors do not discriminate against clients on the basis of identity or systems of belief.
Communicate respectfully and effectively with the Clinic Team. The Clinic Coordinator and Clinic Director function to support the training and learning experience of practicum students and interns, but do not function as personal assistants or receptionists. As the point of contact for the CCC, requests, questions, and exchanges with the Clinic Coordinator should be respectful and cognizant of their valuable time and effort in the clinic.
