Well, she was the first woman to advocate for girls to go to school. Mary McLeod Bethune was deeply committed to advocating for girls to go to school because she believed that education was a key pathway to empowerment and social mobility, especially for African American girls. As a Black woman in a segregated and racially discriminatory society, she understood the challenges African Americans faced in obtaining quality education. Bethune saw that without access to education, young girls would have limited opportunities in life.

We enable girls to reach their full potential by giving them equal chances to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Since many girls around the world are still denied access to education, it is imperative that we teach them that education is a powerful instrument that opens doors to opportunities and helps them flourish in all parts of life. It is equally vital to encourage girls to work in male-dominated sectors, such as STEM, because it gives them the confidence to defy expectations and smash down boundaries. In the end, educating girls for a prosperous, equal future requires creating an inclusive atmosphere where they feel appreciated and supported.
