Who I Am
I am 20 years old and grew up in rural Virginia. I’ve always had pretty traditional beliefs, but I love talking about different ideas, especially when it comes to education! I hope to one day work in a private school teaching 1st or 2nd grade where I can teach both faith and academics together.
I LOVE
To go camping. I am trying to visit every National Park!
To collect rare plants! I have over 100 plants in my collection.
Country music.
My pup is my world! His name is Forrest and he's a rescue.
I have always wanted to be a teacher!
To read, specifically rom-coms.
To go to concerts.
What I know
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." – Benjamin Franklin
I'm confident in my ability to adjust my teaching to fit each student's needs because I understand that not everyone learns the same way. I believe that flexibility is important to creating an environment where my students can each meet their full potential. I know that I grasp concepts best when I can both see and hear them, so I will make it a point to offer multiple styles in my classroom. My classroom will be a place where each student feels understood and supported in their learning!
What I have to Learn
I have a huge fear of being able to control my classroom. I've seen students who thrive under strict rules and others who need to be able to have flexibilty with the rules. I think it is important that I can be flexible and change my style to fit each student's needs.
My goal is a classroom where my students help create the rules. By doing this my students will feel more inclined to follow them out of respect for themselves and their peers. Balancing fun and education is a tough rope to walk, but I'm confident I can succeed with some training.
I plan to attend professional development and keep close communication with parents to help me learn all the ways to keep my students engaged!
The teacher I will Become
My students will learn to think critically and love deeply.
When students come to school they are not only learning academics but learning how to interact with the diverse world around them. As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate this and foster their creativity. Students will learn to forgive, love, and question in my classroom. They will learn that they have a voice and it deserves to be heard. They will expand their content into the community. They will work with each other and learn that everyone has their own opinions. Most importantly they will learn that each opinion is valued just as much as the other. They will learn content through projects but will be tested to a standard. They will use assessment to further their education. This faith-based progressivism/essentialism approach will teach my students to value their education.
A teacher who
listens first and asks questions later.
makes each child feel valued for who they are.
lets students know they are more than just a test score.
can be counted on for guidance.
makes her students laugh.
sees past behavior.
recognizes and embraces our differences.
students find a love of learning.
If a visitor walked into my classroom they would see children working together to understand material and apply it to their community. Personal reflections hung around the room to help encourage multiple perspectives. They would see projects my students have done within the community. Spaces for emotional growth, like a calm down corner. Diverse and complex readings that will push my students to think critically. Assignments that push my students to answer creatively. Overall they would see a student-centered classroom where everyone is heard and valued.

Love of learning, a joyful spark, In every mind, a guiding mark. This teacher's grace, a gentle art, Nurturing seeds, in every heart.
How I used AI
I used Chat GPT to help me narrow down which education philosophies I best align with. I completed a mini quiz and even gathered help by creating recipes! I also used AI throughout the process to help me find synonyms for words I felt I used too often. To generate the image of my future classroom I used Google Gemini and Leonardo IA. I also used AI to help me generate a poem relating to my "A teacher who" section.
I asked:
If educational philosophies were recipes, what ingredients would go into each of the 5 recipes?
Quiz me to help me figure out which philosophies best match my beliefs about education.
I used my description of what a visitor would see in my classroom to prompt Google Gemini to create an image of my classroom.
