Who am I?
Hi everyone! I'm Soledad but I usually go by my nickname Solie. I am originally from North Carolina, but I have lived in Virgina for most of my life. I grew up in a large family with lots of little siblings and cousins and now I have two nieces and a nephew who I adore! Because of this I have always loved working with kids and found that I had a gift for understanding and supporting children. For a while I knew that I wanted to pursue a career working with children, but I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. I eventually applied for a job working as an instructional aide, then a substitute teacher and then I worked for the Navy for a year with Navy Child and Youth Services. Finally, I was convinced teaching was for me and took the leap to go back to school!
What I know
What I know is that every student is different and there are no size fits all for teaching. From working as an instructional aide and as a daycare teacher with toddlers and preschoolers I learned that students have a basic hierarchy of needs. When students' basic needs aren't being met, or they don't feel safe or supported in their environment it has a direct effect on how they learn and grow. I feel confident in my ability to provide students with a caring and supportive environment to support self-efficacy and motivation so they will feel confident to try new things be excited to learn.
What I have to learn
This is a hard question to answer because I feel like there is still so much for me to learn. One of the things I've been nervous about is working with large classroom sizes. In my experience so far, I have worked with smaller groups of kids which makes classroom management much easier. So far, I have considered myself a great multitasker and able to stay patient and focused when working with children, but in a traditional classroom with 20 or more students' things can get pretty chaotic. Having some experience in a large classroom setting to observe some classroom management approches I think would be really helpful for me.
The teacher I will become
I believe that the purpose of school is to educate children on essential knowledge while also helping them develop their individual interests and talents. I hope to become a teacher that encourages my students to try new things and feel confident to express themselves so that they can grow and develop into their best selves! I think that student centered learning is a great approach to allow students choices in their own education and to incorporate hands on activities and group activities. The two main educational philosophies that resonated with me were progressivism and existentialism. I hope to teach my students good problem-solving skills and how to be active learners while also providing them the essential knowledge they will need to be successful in my classroom and throughout their academic careers. If someone were to walk into my classroom, they would see students engaged in learning and working together on hands on activities with me there to guide their learning and ensure they are staying on task.

How I used AI
I used AI for the animated picture of the students in classroom and i typed in "elementary school students engaged in learning" I also used AI for the "you can do it" poster.
