Dear Parents/Guardians
Greetings! We are near the end of the school year. You will agree with me that time flies rapidly and the girls have experienced many things and grown over the year. It’s my pleasure to share with you that we are very proud of our girls’ excellent attitude towards learning, serving, and stepping out of their comfort zone. Thank you too for your trust and active collaboration with us to open our students’ eyes to different possibilities.
I hope the coming year-end break will be a good time for our girls to wind down, explore and make new discovery about themselves. Hope it will also be a time for family bonding and enriching experiences together. Given our hectic everyday schedule, it takes a concerted effort to create quality time for the family. In school, we have constantly reminded our girls to ‘disconnect to connect’. We hope our girls recognize the importance of carving out time to connect with their loved ones. They will also appreciate the time you set aside for them and cherish these precious moments of family get-together.
On 10 October 2024, a “Parenting for Wellness” package was sent to you via Parents Gateway. Hope some of the tips on building strong parent-child relationships will come in handy. In 2025, our Student Support Team will also be organizing a series of parenting talks and some of the materials from the “Parenting for Wellness” package will also be referred to. Do look out for these online sessions in the coming year and we hope we can make full use of the resources we have to nurture flourishing young people together.
While we get ourselves ready for the much-anticipated year-end holidays, some of us may also be starting to plan ahead for 2025. I urge all of you to refer to our school calendar as well as to take note of our protected vacation period before you make bookings for your overseas trips. Every school activity or programme (such as Chinese New Year celebration, National Day Celebration, Life Skills Programme, Post-Examination Activities) offered to the girls is designed for the girls’ holistic growth and learning. Avoiding plans that clash with the school activities and programme is important and will be much appreciated.
To the parents and guardians of our graduating girls, I would like to thank you for your years of good partnership with us. I am sure you are looking forward to attending their Graduation Ceremony on 8 November. As there are limited seats, I seek your understanding that we are only able to offer two seats per graduating student for this event. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish our Class of 2024 all the very best in their future endeavours. Once a Nanyang Girl, always a Nanyang Girl. Our students are always welcome to visit their alma mater.
Last but not least, I would like to wish all our parents and guardians good health and happiness. Once again, a big thank you for your support and trust. It has been a great year working with all of you.
Note: The protected vacation period is from 23 November to 25 December 2024. Only students who are participating in selected November GCP, WEP or the National School Games in early 2025 will be affected.
CCA has resumed in the week of 20 October as per the respective CCA schedule. Once the year-end holiday starts from 8 November, the respective CCA may make some changes to their schedule (e.g. CCA sessions may take place in the morning instead of the afternoons, etc.). There will also be various CCA camps happening from 8 November, either in day-camp or overnight format. Please find out from your daughter/ward on the updated schedule.
We hope that the protected vacation period (23 November to 25 December) will allow everyone to enjoy their holiday with their loved ones. However, as the National School Games (NSG) for a few CCAs begin from January 2025, the affected CCAs may need to adjust the protected period to prepare the students well for the NSG. We seek your understanding on this special arrangement.
SPF, CNB, NCPC, NCADA, HSA and HPB have jointly provided an advisory to educate students on crime-related issues, including the harmful effects of vaping.
We urge parents and guardians to read the enclosed joint advisory carefully as we guide our youths.
(Resurfacing) Chinese New Year Eve Celebrations 2025
Chinese New Year Eve in 2025 falls on Tuesday 28 January. Similar to previous years, we will be having our Chinese New Year celebrations in school on this day. This is an official school day and an important event in Nanyang Girls’ High School. Parents are reminded to make Chinese New Year plans bearing in mind this important date in the school calendar. Lessons will resume on Friday 31 January.
Protected Vacation Periods in 2025
The school will continue to implement protected breaks during the school holidays so as to encourage work-life balance and allow students time to recharge. No school activities will be conducted during these protected breaks, except for special arrangements made for students who are taking part in competitions in the early part of the coming term. The protected vacation dates are as shown below:
During the non-protected break time, the school will still be organizing activities for the students to enrich their learning. These activities include camps and the Global Classroom Programme. We sincerely hope that parents do not plan overseas family trips during the non-protected break periods, so that our girls can complete all school-planned programmes in totality.
