Mdm Liew Yuen Sien (right) was succeeded by Mdm Low Pei Kim, who was her former student.
On 31 December 1966, Mdm Liew Yuen Sien retired after serving as the Principal of Nanyang Girls’ High School for four decades. She had focused all her energies on women’s education, impacting the lives of countless students. She saw the development of the school from the rented premises at Dhoby Ghaut to the school-owned campus at King’s Road. The student population grew from a few hundred to two thousand, with illustrious Nanyang alumni scattered across Southeast Asia. Her contributions extended beyond Nanyang to the cultural, sporting and education landscape of Singapore.
After retirement, she continued to focus on the development of the kindergarten and also served on the Board of Directors. Before her retirement, she had gradually transferred the school’s administrative responsibilities to the discipline mistress, Mdm Low Pei Kim, who was an alumna.
