Dear Parents/Guardians
Greetings! We are now into the middle of Term 2 Week 8. Thank you for journeying with us in the first school semester.
This has been an action-packed semester for our girls. We have all witnessed our girls’ drive as they compete at the National School Games and various competitions, showcased their talents at the Singapore Youth Festival and Nanyang Festival of Arts, served actively during their ComEd programmes and came together to welcome our guests at our Open House. I am very proud that, together, our girls and staff have made NYGH a dynamic and thriving learning community.
The girls are next looking forward to their Life Skills Programme, and our Secondary 1s will be having their first overnight camp in NYGH. This will be a very enriching experience for the girls as we take them out of the comfort of their home. Do encourage the girls to embrace the programme with an open mind and make full use of the opportunity to try out new activities and bond with their peers. All our students will be ending the first semester with exciting activities, which will stretch their learning beyond the classroom. Through our Global Classroom Programme, our Secondary 3s and some Secondary 4s are even learning beyond the shores of Singapore. I thank you for your unwavering support for the girls’ all-round development. Your belief in nurturing all aspects of a child’s growth – physical, social, cognitive and emotional – makes a huge difference in helping her to grow healthily and optimise her potential holistically.
I am also very happy to share with you that our girls have started work on their preparations for our upcoming funfair, Carnival Vibrante 2025. Last year’s funfair provided a wonderful platform for our girls to work passionately as a class, displaying excellent teamwork as they brainstorm and try out the most innovative ways to raise funds for a good cause. We are sure this year’s funfair will be as meaningful and vibrant. We look forward to a joyous funfair on the first Friday of the next semester (4 July 2025).
Last but not least, I would like to wish you in advance a happy mid-year school holiday. May this be a good opportunity for you and family to have a well-deserved break and spend some quality time together.
Ms Siau Fong Fui
Principal
The annual Parent-Child-Teacher Dialogue (PCTD) will be taking place between 23 May and 26 June 2025. This 20-minute online session is a meaningful opportunity for you to engage in a conversation facilitated by the Form Teacher, where your daughter/ward shares her learning experiences, progress, and personal growth in school.
The four days set aside for this dialogue are Friday 23 May, Monday 26 May, Thursday 26 June and Friday 27 June. On a case-by-case basis, the Form Teachers, parents/guardians and students may discuss and decide on an alternative PCTD date during the non-protected-vacation-period, should there be a need to do so.
A Parents Gateway (PG) message will be sent closer to the dates to arrange your preferred date and time for the session.
Our students have been working with their Character Strengths for their learning and development. We are therefore conducting a talk on Character Strengths for parents/guardians on Friday 23 May, 8.30 – 9.30am via Google Meet. (Link: https://meet.google.com/hkb-rkdw-ges)
Parents/Guardians of our Secondary 1 students and parents/guardians who missed last year’s pre-PCTD parenting talk on Character Strengths are strongly encouraged to attend this talk. This talk aims to give us an understanding of how knowing and applying our character strengths help us to thrive.
Before the talk, you are encouraged to read about Character Strengths and take the free VIA Character Survey. They are available at https://www.viacharacter.org. You will need to register for an account before you take the survey.
This is an optional talk, and NOT a prerequisite for PCTD.
FUSION, Nanyang's signature interdisciplinary programme for Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 students commenced on 7 May and will end on 22 May.
This programme aims to:
1) develop and strengthen key emerging 21st century competencies and dispositions such as:
· critical, adaptive, inventive thinking
· communication and collaboration skills
· civic literacy
2) enable our students to think, connect and apply knowledge, skills and concepts across disciplines and come up with creative solutions to solve real-world problems and issues.
This enriching FUSION programme, which includes interdisciplinary modules, community education visits, sharing by industry partners, learning journeys and neighbourhood walks, will create deep and memorable learning experiences. Our students will also get to work collaboratively in teams on their FUSION projects mentored by their teachers. To celebrate their learning and as empowered agents of change, their interdisciplinary projects will be showcased on CREATE Day on 8 August, as part of SG60 National Day Celebrations.
The lower secondary students have received their special FUSION timetables, and a separate PG message has been sent to Sec 1 parents with information on Learning Journeys.
For more information on FUSION, you may explore the FUSION microsites through your daughter’s account/ward’s NYGH account:

To better prepare the students for the upcoming Sec 3 Cohort China GCP trip, there will be two days set aside for the pre-trip preparation. The table below shows the schedule for both batches.
Our Secondary 1, 2 and 4 students will be having their LSP in Week 10 from Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 May, while the Secondary 3 students will be participating in the Global Classroom Programme (GCP). (Batch 2, whose GCP starts only on 28 May, will be having their GCP preparation lessons on 27 May.) The table below shows the LSP activities planned for each level.
To enhance students' understanding and appreciation of the Chinese culture, each year the school will organise exciting activities for the Secondary 1s. This year, our girls can look forward to the following activities:
All Secondary 2 students will be participating in a museum-based learning programme at the National Museum of Singapore on 28, 29 or 30 May 2025 as part of their CCE experience. The students will embark on a journey to learn about Singapore History through the stories behind the artefacts at the National Museum of Singapore. Please refer to the table below for the schedule.
Please note that transport will not be provided for the learning journeys that take place from 3 to 5pm. Students are to make their own way to the National Museum and will be dismissed directly from the National Museum after the learning journey.
Students from Classes 204 and 205, who will be having their learning journey from 9 to 11am on 30 May, will make their own way to the National Museum, but will return to school by chartered buses. They will be dismissed from school after their LSP activity for the day.
Further details of the arrangements will be shared with the students by their Form Teachers.
The Science Department will be offering Science practical trials to our Secondary 4 students.
Please refer to the table below for the practical trial dates.
Details on the reporting and dismissal times will be sent to students via email closer to date.
* There will be a makeup session in Term 3 for students who will be overseas on GCP in T2W10. More information regarding the makeup session will be sent to affected students via email.
Our school's Positive Education Team has designed a "Jolly June" calendar for our girls to have some fun and meaningful activities during the break. It encourages students to appreciate being in the moment, express gratitude and compassion to others and take the time to be kind to themselves. The individual tasks may seem small but they all add up to improving one's well-being. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to enjoy this calendar with your daughters and wards. (The “Jolly June” calendar will be sent to the students via the school email.) We wish you a jolly time this June with your daughters/wards.
The school library will remain open daily throughout the June holidays from 8.00am to 5.00pm. Students who wish to return to school for self-study or to make use of the library facilities are welcome to do so.
Please note that the library may be closed on selected days for stock-taking and maintenance during protected leave. Students will be notified of these closure dates via email prior to the June holidays.
One canteen stall will be operating until 1pm from Monday 2 to Friday 6 June. There will not be any canteen stalls operating between Monday 9 and Friday 27 June. Students who are planning to return to school have to make plans for their meals.
The art room will be opened on 4 – 6 June (9.00 am – 12 noon) should our art students want to use the facilities and consult their teachers on their T2-3 3D module practical work progress.
As our Secondary 4 students conclude their major competitions and performances, this is also a natural time for them to hand over their roles and responsibilities to their juniors. Most students will continue with their CCA sessions until the first week of the June holidays (Friday 7 June 2025).
However, some Secondary 4 students may wish to remain involved in their CCA beyond this period, especially if they are able to manage the commitment and continue contributing meaningfully. For these students, CCA teachers will seek parental consent for an extended CCA involvement. This will usually take place till Term 3 Week 5, or any time the student’s CCA commitments conclude. Do look out for the consent form for this CCA extension.
Some of the C Division National School Games have started and will continue till Term 3. To ensure that students are well conditioned for these competitions, CCA practices will continue during the June school holidays. While we would adhere closely to the protected vacation leave, a few CCAs may adjust their training schedule to better prepare them. You will find out more from your daughter/ward.
We are having our school funfair, Carnival Vibrante 2025, on Friday 4 July 2025, as part of our Youth Day and Racial Harmony Day celebrations. There will be more than 45 stalls offering food (waffles, ice cream, bubble tea, and cookies), merchandise (bracelets, keychains and slime), services (photo booths, henna, face painting) and games (escape rooms, haunted houses).
The event details are as follows:
Event: Carnival Vibrante 2025
Date: Friday 4 July 2025
Time: 8.15am – 2.30pm (Event will commence after the flag raising ceremony.)
Audience: Internal funfair for students (NOT open to the public)

Event Preparation on 3 July
On Thursday 3 July, students will end lessons by 12 noon, to give them time for lunch and to set up their class stalls for the funfair. Dismissal time on this day is 2.30pm.
On both 3 and 4 July, CCA practices for students involved in the upcoming C division competitions will take place from 4pm to 6.30pm. More information will be provided by their CCA teachers.
Purchase of Funfair Coupons
The funfair coupons will be available for purchase from mid-May to mid-June. Each funfair coupon is priced at $20, with denominations of $5, $2 and $1. These coupons will also grant access to various games, service, merchandise and food stalls throughout the funfair.
Coupons may also be bought and pledged to our beneficiaries. With the pledged coupons, our invited beneficiaries will get to enjoy the stalls during the funfair. Parents/guardians who wish to purchase coupons for this purpose may purchase them through your daughter/ward.
Students will submit their orders for funfair coupons via an online platform, where they can indicate the number of coupons either purchased for their own use or pledged to beneficiaries. Payment of the coupons will be done via PayNow/PayLah. The coupons will be distributed to the students through their Form Teachers in Term 3 Week 1.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
The school continues to practise and celebrate “Eat with your Family Day”. Launched in 2003 by the Centre for Fathering (CFF), it will be held on the last Friday of each school term. The school will thus close at 5pm to allow everyone to leave school early to enjoy a meal and spend quality time with families on 30 May, 4 September (brought forward from 5 September) and 21 November 2025.
Wishing you in advance a happy family get-together on this very joyful day.
