Dear Parents,
As we conclude the academic year with our final instalment of "Parenting Sense" and "Student Talk" for the year, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude for the unwavering support and understanding you have shown throughout your child's learning journey here at NYGH. In alignment with the Ministry of Education and COMPASS' promotional poster about home-school partnership, your partnership with us is vital - let us work hand in hand and journey foward together to raise happy, confident and kind Nanyang girls!
In a wonderful display of gratitude, the Parent Support Group (PSG) went above and beyond to prepare a lavish buffet brunch in appreciation of our teachers' unwavering love and dedication to our students.
Teachers were treated to a sumptuous spread of local delicacies, featuring favorites such as Otah Toast, Yam Cake, Dim Sum, Mee Siam, Laksa, and Burger Sliders. To elevate the brunch experience, the PSG also set up a tantalising granola and dessert table, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The delicious food not only brought smiles but also energised our teachers, allowing them to tackle their marking tasks with full hearts (and stomachs!). Our sincere thanks to PSG for their thoughtfulness and for making this event a memorable celebration of our teachers' hard work!
As an important Chinese festival that traditionally commemorates the end of the autumn harvest and emphasises family reunions, the Mid-Autumn Festival was successfully organised by the school’s Chinese Department on September 18. Our girls were given an informative introduction to the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival and learnt much about the rich history and significance behind the celebration.
Students and staff also got to participate in quizzical lantern riddles (猜灯谜) in the canteen and were also treated to delicious mooncakes, snacks and pomelo! The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration fostered a sense of community and provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about and appreciate cultural traditions.
In a joint effort to raise happy, confident and kind individuals of the next generation, MOE and COMPASS have outlined a three-pronged approach focused on fostering respectful communication, encouraging role modeling, and establishing meaningful connections. Let us work together to practise and mirror these three aspects in both contexts of school and home!
As the holiday season approaches, we took the opportunity to ask both parents and girls about their ideal holiday experience and/or the activities they enjoy during their free time. Coincidentally, this question was one of the five essay prompts in the Secondary One Language Arts Year-End Examination! Both parents and our girls responded enthusiastically with heartfelt and creative entries, showcasing various favorite pastimes and recreational pursuits. Read on to find out more about their individual interests and what truly engages them. You may even be inspired to borrow some ideas!
Our heartiest thanks to the following parties for their respective contributions:
