Dear Parents/Guardians
Greetings! Welcome back to the new school year. To our Sec 1 parents, a very warm welcome to the Nanyang family!
One week has passed since school reopened on 2 January. The Sec 2 and 4 students, especially, were having a good time meeting their classmates again during orientation after the long school break. The Sec 1 and 3 students were also getting to know their new classmates as well as teachers, with the various interactive activities conducted during the orientation week. Our teachers and students take great pride in making the school a safe and positive learning environment and we are sure it will be yet another meaningful year for the Nanyang family.
May I also take this opportunity to introduce you to Mrs Mae Ho, former HOD/Co-Curricular Activities, who has just been appointed Vice-Principal (Strategic Development). Together with Ms Mabel Goh (Vice-Principal/Academic Studies), Ms Agnes Ng (Vice-Principal/Student Development) and Mrs Tan-Sim Joo Yee (Bursar), we look forward to working closely with you to provide our girls with an enriching holistic education.
I am also looking forward to meeting all of you personally as I update you on our school’s latest developments. You will receive a separate cohort invitation letter to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM), and I hope to see all of you soon.
Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
We write to parents/guardians regularly to update you on school events and developments. The information is sent out mainly via Parents Gateway (PG), and we seek the cooperation of parents to download the Parents Gateway mobile app to receive letters, notices and consent forms.
The NYGH Portal (https://portal.nygh.edu.sg/) is another platform to access important information, such as slides shared at PTM and results. All parents of Secondary 2 to 4 students should have had access to the Portal. To ensure the effective dissemination of information, please provide us with an active email address by updating the email address on the Portal if you have yet to do so. This updated email address will be your new login ID.
The school will transit to the MOE School Cockpit, starting with the 2024 Secondary 1 cohort. Parents of Secondary 1 students therefore do not need to access the NYGH Portal.
In addition, for dates on school events, you may access the school master calendar at NYGH Termly (https://sites.google.com/nygh.edu.sg/nanyangtermly/school-calendar) or via the school website (nygh.edu.sg) under Quick Links. We have also gone paperless with an e-Student Handbook, which will be sent out by February. More information about the school will be covered in the e-handbook.
Please note that we observe a five-day workweek. Our General Office is closed on Saturdays, and activities on Saturdays are minimised. If parents and students need to contact our staff, please do so between 7 am and 7 pm on school days.
Our Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM) are scheduled to keep you informed of 2024’s school direction and programmes. The dates and time of the Secondary 1 to 4 PTMs are as follows:
The safety of our students is of top priority. We seek your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety of our students and to show consideration for nearby residents. Please note the following measures regarding both human and vehicle traffic:
We strongly advise our students to commute to school by public transport as the school is well-served by public buses and the Downtown Line.
Parents are to alight your child at the drop-off/pick-up point in front of the auditorium lobby, in the vicinity of the school. Please do not stop at the school gate without entering the school to alight your child at all times, as this will compromise safety of all road-users, including your child.
Given high traffic congestion on rainy days, please set off earlier on such days for smoother traffic.
Please do not park outside the school (along Linden Drive) during the afternoon and evening pick-up period. This is hazardous to other road-users and violates the traffic rule, which prohibits waiting within the vicinity of zebra crossings. To alleviate the traffic situation along Linden Drive, parents’ vehicles are allowed to enter the school compound to park in front of the auditorium lobby. However, parking space within the school is limited. Whilst waiting, please turn off the car engine as required by law.
The side gate along Dunearn Road is locked during school hours. On school days, the side gate is opened from 6.15am to 8.30am and from 2pm to 4pm. After 4 pm, students may exit the side gate using their student ezlink cards via the full-height turnstile.
We seek parents’ support to keep schools a safe environment for students.
If your child is unwell, please ensure that he/she stays at home and seeks medical attention if necessary. If your child is recovering from respiratory-related illnesses, please encourage him/her to exercise social responsibility (e.g., by wearing a mask).
We appreciate your support and will continue to work with you closely. Let us all do our part to exercise personal and social responsibility to stay safe.
The Health Promotion Board will be offering the HPV vaccination to all female students in secondary schools. The vaccine used is Cervarix. The vaccination team will be at the school from 19 to 23 February 2024 to vaccinate the Sec 1 and 2 students. Details will be sent via PG in early January to parents.
The School Health Service team will be at our school from 27 February to 7 March 2024 and 18 March to 21 March 2024 to conduct the annual health screening for all Secondary 1 and 2 students. Classes will be rostered during school hours for the health screening.
The Mobile Dental Clinic will be stationed at our school from 18 March to 21 June 2024 (tentative). The School Dental Services will be conducted for Secondary 1 and 3 students during this period.
Parental consent is required for HPV Vaccination and School Dental Services. Details will be sent via PG in early January to parents.

The registration for National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) will take place in our school on Friday 23 February 2024. Students who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents and have attained the age of 15 years in 2024 are to register for their NRIC. Details will be sent to parents closer to the date of registration.
To encourage work-life balance and to allow students time to recharge, the school will continue to implement protected breaks during the school holidays. No school activities will be conducted during these breaks, except for special arrangements made for students who are taking part in competitions in the early part of the coming term and some Secondary 3 and 4 Global Classroom Programme (GCP) trips. (All GCP trip dates will be shared with students involved by end of Term 1.) The protected vacation dates this year are as shown in the table below:
As part of the national effort to integrate active, engaging learning in the classroom with active, engaging self-directed learning from home, we will continue with Empowered Learner Day (ELD) in 2024. However, we will only conduct ELD in Terms 2 and 3. More details about ELD will be shared with you later.
Our Chinese New Year Celebrations will be held on Friday 9 February and school hours will be from 8.15am to 10.30am that day. Our General Office will be closed at 12noon.
We remember the less fortunate among us while we celebrate the festive occasion as a school. Students and staff are encouraged to contribute items to create hampers for our beneficiaries. We hope students will also donate a portion of their hongbao money for the needy.
On Wednesday 14 February, the school will be having our Staff Professional Development Day as well as Chinese New Year Lunch. Students will therefore conduct their home-based learning that day. Students will return to school on Thursday 15 February after the Chinese New Year break and home-based learning day.
At MOE’s Committee of Supply Debate in March 2020, MOE launched the National Digital Literacy Programme (NDLP) for schools and Institutes of Higher Learning to help students strengthen their digital literacy. One component of the NDLP is the initiative where every secondary school student will own a school-prescribed Personal Learning Device (PLD).
All Secondary 1 students can look forward to purchasing a PLD with this MOE initiative. More information will be provided later in Term 1.
Students who need financial assistance in purchasing the PLD may approach our school’s accounts department to enquire further after the dissemination of information.
To exercise appropriate, responsible and empowered use of technology, all students must endeavour to lead and assist others in building positive digital experiences, recognise that our actions have consequences to others and participate in the use of technology for the common good. In the coming weeks, we will engage all students in understanding the RUP for using technology in their everyday classroom and learning. The RUP can also be found in the NYGH Student Handbook, which will be shared with the students in mid-Term 1. We will also make a copy of the RUP available to parents in due time, so that you may continue to have conversations on responsible use of technology with your daughter.
Please be informed that photographs or video images of you and your child/ward may be taken during school activities and events such as classroom lessons, CCA, school camps, or school concerts. The school may use and publish such photographs or video recordings in school publications, the school’s website, social media channels, or other communication channels.
Enclosed is the GIRO deduction schedule for the year 2024 (Annex 1). The school will send an e-mail to parents/guardians to inform you about the details of each GIRO deduction prior to the deduction date. Kindly ensure that you have adequate funds in your bank account on the scheduled deduction dates. For unsuccessful GIRO deductions, a $10 administration charge will be imposed.
The monthly full school fee rate for the different groups of students in 2024 is summarized in the table below.
Students who are recipients of the ESIS/BSP/CLE scholarship and students who are in AEP will continue to receive school fee subsidy according to the terms and conditions stipulated by MOE.
The CCA co-payment rate for 2024 is attached for your information (Annex 2).
