We are finishing up the challenge this week, and I am so proud of our teams! This has been a great way for me to get a little insight into what you all are doing in your spare time to be active and healthy, and I have really enjoyed getting to know folks better. I was very impressed with the achievements of our teams, and so I wanted to wind down the challenge by sharing the activities that you all have been taking part in. In addition to fun group activities in the office, outside of the workday, we have a very busy group! I wanted to share photos that we have collected during this challenge, so thank you all for sending me some great pictures!
We have some very active people in the CIPM office! There are several runners, cyclists, and hikers in our Center. Ryan Adams came in first in the challenge the CIPM teams, and that is very impressive for someone with two little ones in the house! He shared that he mostly just biked on his Peloton and worked out on the rowing machine, and he also plays hockey every week as well. He bikes on his road bike too, adding to his weekly mileage. An hour of hockey is equal to 14,589 steps, so that alone was more than most people get in a day! As some of you may recall, Ryan posted about his involvement with the Triangle Special Hockey Association last year. If you are interested in getting involved, you can get more information about this organization here.
Ryan walked with his daughter and his dog on top of other activities he regularly participates in.
Caroline Balloux did an amazing job with the challenge this year and came in second, also thanks to her active lifestyle. Instead of driving, Caroline walks and rides her bike everywhere, and on weekends she likes to hike or bike with friends. Finding social groups to be engaged with helps people stay active, and you can see that Caroline has a great social circle for her favorite activities. She has hiked with her friends at Mt. Rogers and Mt. Mitchell, and they recently biked the trails at the NC Whitewater Center.

Go Wolfpack!
Another way a lot of our CIPM staff stays active is with their pets! Many of you have dogs, and Lauren Stutts and her corgi Photon like to take walks on the greenway, in local parks, and around their neighborhood. She shares these on his personal Facebook page! The Carolina Corgi Facebook page has regular meetups at the beach and local parks to share the joy of corgi ownership with others, and so if you have a corgi, or if you can find a local group of dog owners you can follow and meet others who share your love of dogs!
I have seen tortoises online who go to parks and walk in their neighborhoods, but my tortoise is too small to get out very much (although I do walk him around the yard sometimes). So usually I just walk dogs, and my son just got a new puppy. I have been sharing the walking duties with Finn lately, but before I came to CIPM, I was a contractor on Wag! and Rover (and I still do Rover). Brutus is almost 6-months, and so if she has a 30-45 minute walk, it makes a huge difference as far as my ability to get through my workday without dogs roughhousing and asking to go in & out all day!

The Centennial Campus Disc Golf Champion!
Andrew Mende and Roger Margery have been meeting and playing pickleball on campus, and he and Mikel Shilling took part in the Centennial Campus Disc Golf League competition this spring, and Andrew came in first place in the league! Do any of the other CIPMers play disc golf? If you are interested in playing on campus when you are in the office, knock on Andrew’s door and let him you know that you also play!
Many of you know Danesha and I took a trip to Costa Rica and it is always difficult to get in enough steps when you are flying or sitting in meetings. We tried to encourage each other to get in our steps every day, and we took several tours of agricultural areas there, including a coffee tour and a bee tour. We went to the Manuel Antonio National Park outside Quepos, Costa Rica. We walked over 6 miles that day, but that afternoon I went for a swim in the warm Pacific ocean. I was tired after our hike, but the dip in the rough surf helped massage my muscles, and I am sure the salt water helped too. Water is my therapy! Danesha can walk endlessly if she is looking at flowers and bees! She will also be sharing more about her most recent trip soon, but in the meantime, here are some of the sights from our trip.
With views like that, it's surprising Danesha and I came back. But here we are!
SOOOO MUCH COFFEE!!
