Happy Birthday to Dr. Ron Stinner
Dr. Ron Stinner (left) and Dr. Karl Suiter (right)
The NSF Center for Integrated Pest Management (CIPM) was established in 1991 on Centennial Campus to serve as a leader in technology development, program implementation, training, and public awareness for IPM at the state, regional, and national level. CIPM is an organizational unit within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. Our Center also collaborates with scientists from other universities and the USDA through grants, contracts, or other formal working relationships.
Dr. Ron Stinner was a professor of Entomology and Biomathematics at NCSU. He was also a founding member of CIPM and was a director of CIPM from 1993 to 2008. He received a grant funding from NSF, Division of Engineering Education and Centers on August 1, 1991 to establish CIPM at NCSU. Happy 32th Birthday to CIPM. If you like to know about the history of CIPM, he wrote a nice journal article to describe CIPM.
Ron's focus areas include integrated pest management, pest predictive modeling, decision making systems, invasive species management, and database management. He retired from NCSU in 2008 but stayed at NCSU for the next few years to mentor students.
He will be 80 years old this week! Big Happy Birthday to a founding father of CIPM!
