I am a runner. I run almost every day as long as weather and time permit. I like running but have to motivate myself 70% of the time. Almost every morning, I am thinking.... "ugh... outside is cold (or hot)", "I don't feel like running", and "I am so hungry" and finding all possible reasons not to go running. 😆
Then why do I continue? I would say 99.9% of the time, I feel great after the run. I am more energized and can focus better. Most importantly running helps me clear my mind.
Over the years, I have learned a few tips to continue running. I don't need to break records in every run - don't need to run with my full effort every day. The goal is to continue, so I run at easy pace. Running with friends also helps. It is not easy to run and talk at the same time, but the pace you can keep up while talking is the best pace for your body. It is okay to stop in the middle of a run. And yes! it is perfectly okay to take a rest and go back to bed. I just wear running shoes and go outside. Then, I start running within 5 minutes.
Having a goal (goals) helps to continue, too. Many people sign up for a race (distance doesn't matter) and train for the race. For me, I love climbing mountains. I know I will suffer if I am not fit. Walking hills with a heavy backpack is really tiring.
There are a few times I am excited to go running! For example, I like running in new places. When I am traveling, I am sightseeing while I am running! I would not go outside at this ungodly hour unless I am running. So, I get to see something unexpected. I particularly enjoyed running in Milan early morning when almost no one was at the Duomo. The sunrise over the Seine in Paris was breathtaking. I saw the Queen's coffin while running in London (totally unexpected. I had absolutely no idea and was running during the day). This time, I had a best run in Tokyo. I normally run around the Imperial Palace (but I have never seen the Emperor!). It was a best decision to go to a different location.
Today, I am posting a few photos that I took during my recent run in Tokyo - great location to run with a great view. The weather was perfect too!
Let's find ways to fit exercise into your day. We just need easy and fun activities.
