Yates Mill
Historic Yates Mill County Park is located at Lake Wheeler Road, which is only 10 minutes away from the office. It is a beautiful historic site to visit and relax. And it is a big plus to be across the street from Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery.
Yates Mill served Wake County as a water-powered mill for more than 200 years. Of the 70 gristmills that served Wake County, Yates Mill is the only one still in operating condition. The mill was an important economic and social center for residents. (from Wake County website)
Recently, I read an article about how NCSU has been involved to restore Yates Mill. Many Colleges and Departments were involved in restoring the Mill. I am so proud to be part of NC State and to be able to work with professors and students who understand historical value and restoration.
