As American as Apple Pie
The Fourth of July is next week! It is time for parade, fireworks, BBQ, and pies. Nobody can't celebrate the Independence Day without a pie. And what can be more American than Apple Pie?
The pilgrims came to America in search of religious freedom and arrived in New England on November 11, 1620. They brought seeds from Europe and planted the first apple tree in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. By the way, apples are not native to Europe. It is originated from Central Asia (Kazakhstan), and apple seeds had been carried through Europe by 1500BC.
Because the pilgrims came to America to gain independence from Britain, they began making new deserts, such as treats introduced by Dutch and German immigrants in the 1700s, instead of making traditional English desert like scones and bread pudding. Dutch and German immigrants taught them the flaky and buttery crust filled with sliced apples and spices. A recipe for apple pie was first time included in American cook book in 1796.
Enjoy the 4th of July holiday with a slice (or slices) of pie!
