María Cecilia Fierro Evans

Professional appointment: Professor and Senior Researcher at the Graduate Studies and Research Department at Iberoamericana University in León, México Professional profile: María Cecilia Fierro Evans has a PhD in Sciences, with a major in Education Research from the Department of Education Research of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. She is currently a Professor and Senior Researcher at the Graduate Studies and Research Department at Iberoamericana University in León, México, where she has also held the position of Research and Graduate Studies Director, Head of Department of Educational Research, and General Academic Director. She is a member of Mexico’s National Researchers System since 2006.
Her greatest academic concern for over three decades has been to strengthen teachers' endeavors and power of action and to contribute to a greater equity in the educational systems. Her aim has been to articulate proposals that originate from school itself with the institutional spaces that can stimulate and enrich them. Her books have been adopted by the Public Educational System and have been used in every public school since 1990.
She is a founding member of the Red Latinoamericana de Convivencia Escolar (Latin American Network on School Co-existence), www.convivenciaescolar.net, whose purpose is to promote democratic and inclusive convivencia in schools through the means of research, training, multicultural dialogue and offering supportive resources to the members. In 2016 she was awarded with the Brock International Prize in Education, by the University of Oklahoma, USA, for her contributions to the field of education in Mexico.
