Abdominal Pain/Vomiting

1. Follow General Medical Protocol.

2. Mandatory interventions:

a. Cardiac monitoring

b. IV access

c. Rapid glucose testing

3. Do not allow patient to eat or drink anything prior to arrival at medical facility.

4. Initiate Isotonic Solution (NS or LR) 0.9% NORMAL SALINE  infusion at TKO rate.

5. If SHOCK is present, follow Medical Shock Protocol.

6. If nausea or vomiting is present, administer ONDANSETRON (Zofran) 4mg-8mg IV/IM/PO.  

(DO NOT use if patient is pregnant.  Go to 6.a option below.)

a. Option:  DIPHENHYDRAMINE (Benadryl) 12.5 - 25 mg IV/IM.

b. Option:  ONDANSETRON (Zofran) 8 mg IN.

7. For severe pain, administer pain control:

a. FENTANYL 50 - 100 mcg IV every 5 – 10 minutes for severe pain.

i. Option:  MORPHINE 2 – 5 mg IV every 5 – 10 minutes.
