Follow General Pediatric Protocol.
Mandatory interventions:
a. Oxygen
b. Cardiac monitoring
The following interventions are mandatory if there is a decreased level of alertness:
c. IV access
d. Rapid glucose testing
If decreased level of alertness OR respiratory depression is present, administer NALOXONE (Narcan) 0.1 mg/kg IV/IM/IN.
Do not administer any oral “antidotes” including the following:
a. Charcoal
b. Ipecac syrup
c. Components of the “Universal Antidote”
Transport container of suspected substance to medical facility if safe to do so.
In the older child or adolescent, consider the possibility of intentional overdose and notify law enforcement.
