Follow General Trauma Protocol.
Cover open wounds with sterile dressings.
Assess neurovascular function prior to and after splinting. This should be reassessed periodically while enroute.
If no pulse is present distally to a suspected fracture, attempt gentle realignment once to reestablish blood flow.
If there is an AMPUTATION present:
Time is of the greatest importance to assure viability. Transport should be initiated as quickly as possible.
Control external bleeding. If direct pressure fails, prepare to use a tourniquet to control bleeding.
Wrap amputated part in a dry dressing and transport with the patient.
You may place amputated part in container with ice, however, do not place in direct contact with ice.
Partial amputations should be splinted appropriately.
If PROFUSE BLEEDING is present (whether or not amputated), apply a tourniquet.
Treat pain per Pain Management Protocol.
