Spine Trauma

1. Follow General Trauma Protocol.

2. Option: Paramedic may assess patient for eligibility for Selective Spinal Immobilization.

3. Secure and recheck immobilization enroute.

4. Perform a rapid neurologic examination as dictated in the General Trauma Protocol including careful assessment of extremity motor function & sensation.

5. Monitor for development of neurogenic shock:

a. Hypotension

b. Warm skin

c. Bradycardia

d. Priapism

If present, administer 250 mL boluses of Isotonic Solution (NS or LR) 0.9% NORMAL SALINE  until MAP > 65 mm Hg.   DO NOT OVER-HYDRATE.

6. If MAP does not improve to >/= 65 mm Hg, follow Medical Shock protocol.
