Follow General Trauma Protocol.
Splint flail segments with a pillow if patient is severely dyspneic.
If OPEN WOUNDS are present, cover with an occlusive dressing and tape on 3 sides.
Monitor for signs of tension pneumothorax:
a. Increased respiratory distress
b. Decreased or absent unilateral breath sounds
c. Hypotension
d. Tracheal deviation
If this diagnosis is suspected based on the above, be prepared to
follow Pleural Decompression Protocol.
Treat pain per Pain Management Protocol.
