Follow General Medical Protocol.
Mandatory interventions:
a. Cardiac monitoring
b. Oxygen
c. IV access
d. Rapid glucose check
If CVA is suspected, obtain time of change in condition and perform neurologic exam. Perform Cincinnati Prehospital Stroke Scale (as shown).
If HYPOXIA or RESPIRATORY DISTRESS is present, anticipate possibility of airway obstruction OR the need for endotracheal intubation. Treat per Dyspnea Protocol.
If HYPOGLYCEMIC (or unable to assess glucose level):
a. Administer DEXTROSE 50% 50 mL IV
If NARCOTIC OVERDOSE is suspected AND RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION is present:
a. Administer NALOXONE (Narcan) 2 mg IV/IM/IN; may repeat as needed to maintain adequate respirations or alertness
If patient is comatose for unknown reason AND breathing on their own, maintain airway patency with least traumatic modality & transport. If alteration of vital signs, treat via specific protocol.
