Climate Change
Climate change in Jamaica is a significant issue as Jamaica is likely to suffer adverse effects from climate change due to increases in the intensity and frequency of natural hazards, drought and the rise of sea levels. Warming trends have had detrimental impacts in Jamaica specifically regarding an increased occurrence of drought and the frequency and magnitude of extreme climate events. As a result, there has been an increased crop yield loss and damage to livestock, fishery and aquaculture infrastructure and irrigation structures. The country’s local farmers and fishermen are deficient in resources and therefore highly susceptible to climate impacts.
