Rain gardens are placed in areas of land that are low lying and typically collect stormwater. They are planted with native perennials and the intent is to filter the rainwater and to allow it to soak into the ground rather than running off onto the street. This not only provides another form of stormwater control but also beautifies an area while strengthening the soil as well as attracting pollinators.
Rain gardens can be implemented by the city with tax dollars or grants or can also be a homeowner's project. An effect way to get homeowner's motivated to do something like this would be community education as to why it is important to control stormwater.
The pink areas on the map are areas that we have identified as areas that could benefit from either a raingarden being implemented or by a bioswale.
