Wind Turbines

Energy Futures @ Montague

Site 1 is a good spot because it is relatively out of the way of most activities in town. It is also further inland because this area is prone to flooding. Being close to the water and a decent distance behind most of the buildings in the main town helps keep it in an effective place, while still being out of the way from anything in the town. Being on city property also makes it easier to build here.

Site 2 is also a very ideal spot. It is on a peninsula right next to the water so it would be very effective at generating wind energy. This site is also spread a good distance away from Site 1 so each windmill can distribute energy to different parts of town efficiently.

The average onshore wind turbine produces about 2.5-3 MW of electricity, which is enough to power 1,500 homes. The costs are steep being about $1.3-2.2 million per MW. However, the long term investment is worth it economically as much of the excess electricity that these turbines can generate can be sold at a profit.
