MJS Weekly Reflection
May 6 - May 10
Teacher of the Year/Educational Service Professional of the Year
This week we had the opportunity to honor and recognize the MJS Educational Service Professional of the Year, Mrs. Mary Ficke and the MJS Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Michelle Brennan. Join us in celebrating the exceptional dedication and passion these two individuals bring to MJS every day. Mrs. Ficke and Mrs. Brennan exemplifies the highest standards of teaching excellence that inspires our students. Let's congratulate and express our gratitude for their outstanding contributions to our school community!
Morris County Superintendents Middle School Leadership Award
Each year every middle school in Morris County has the opportunity to recognize an 8th grade student for the Morris County Superintendents Middle School Leadership Award. This award is presented to an eighth grade student who by actions and deeds represents a model of citizenship and leadership in our school community. The MJS recipient for this award is Cece Mariani. On Wednesday evening we attended an Awards Dinner to honor and celebrate all of the recipients across Morris County. Congratulations Cece! We are proud of you and appreciate the leadership you have brought to our MJS One Community!
The Chariot of the Sun Assembly
“The Chariot of the Sun” has become a wonderful tradition and fun enrichment activity that coordinates with both the seventh grade ELA and Social Studies curriculum. And this year did not disappoint! On Thursday, the seventh graders thoroughly enjoyed this 50 minute performance. Some students even participated right along side the performer Jeff Benoit in an adaptation of three short Greek myths. This interactive performance brought many laughs during testing week to provide some educational fun. A huge thank you to the MEF who once again sponsored the program.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated during the first full week of May each year. This week provided us a special opportunity to express our gratitude for our teachers and their hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to shaping young minds. We have an amazing staff at MJS. Our PTO planned a beautiful week of celebration. This included a breakfast on Monday, lottery tickets on Tuesday, Donuts and Coffee on Thursday, Ice Cream truck on Thursday and a Pizza Luncheon on Friday. Thank you to our PTO! Thank you our teachers and staff for all that they bring to our MJS One Community everyday to help provide our students with the best educational experiences!

Important Information
Technology Reminder about Student Chromebook Usage
In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
