January Leaders of the Month

On Wednesday February 21 we had the opportunity to celebrate our January Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS ONE Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

You can view more information about our January Leaders of the Month by clicking this link or the Leaders of the Month link at the top of this website.

Pickleball Tournament

Our Student Council Pickleball Tournament was on Thursday, February 29th and it was a great success.  Twenty-three teams participated, with many fans in the bleachers cheering them on.  The top 3 teams received prizes donated by Ms. Sharon Streit. The winners were:

1st Place - The Pickles, Colin Waldron and Tyler Smith
2nd Place - The Dinkers, Holly Trupia and Jazminh Witte
3rd Place - Green Gamers, Quinn Hollenbach and Ty Braverman

Thank you to everyone who participated or came to support their friends.  A special thank you to Ms. Streit for the prizes, Ms. Ferris, Mr. Martinez, Ms. Tyburczy, and Mr. Veiga for refereeing the game.  Mr. Millichap for running the brackets, Atharva Aiyer for selling pickles and Caroline Wilson for emceeing.  A final thank you to Mr. Perrone and Mr. Sylvester for supporting the event and playing the final team.  They played a good game, but the Pickles came out on top with a final score of 5 to 2.  Please watch for the upcoming MEF adult pickleball tournament on June 4, 2024,  with a kids' tournament the day after.  Our next event is the Student vs. Teacher basketball game on March 14 at 6:30 PM.

Morning Hoops

Our Morning Hoops Program started this week and it was a great success! The Morning Hoops Program initiative focuses on physical activity, teamwork, and providing a positive start to the day. Our goal is to support a climate and culture that fosters a strong school community.

There is still availability for each grade level. A permission slip is required for students to attend this program. If you child is interested in attending, please complete this permission slip.

Snapshots from MJS

6th Grade students from our Spanish Novice class participated in Conjuguemos, which is a brand new amazing & helpful resource to help our conjugase their verbs.

Seventh grade STUDENTS (noun) put their grammar skills to the test this week WITH (preposition) an escape room based on parts of speech.  WE (pronoun) are SO (adverb) PROUD (adjective)  of their efforts!

Our Green Team had their big reveal of their new items for the MJS courtyard project. This was made possible through an MEF Grant. More information to come!

Important Information

Technology Reminder about Student Chromebook Usage

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. A message was shared over the PA on Friday with our students as a reminder. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.

We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:

In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.

Costs:

Note: Final assessment of damage and fines is determined by the Technology Department.

Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.

In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.

Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
