MJS Weekly Reflection

January 2 - January 5

It was wonderful to welcome all of our students and staff back into the building this week! Students got reacclimated to their routines and started right where they left off. Planning for upcoming events occurred this week and we looking forward to a great 2024! Marking period 2 is coming to a close in a few weeks, marking the halfway point to our school year.

This edition of the Weekly Reflection will focus on sharing information about our upcoming events at MJS during the month of January.

Dress for the Decades Spirit Week

Get ready for another fun filled spirit week! Starting on Monday we will dress for the decades. There will be great attire and great music filling our MJS hallways and classrooms! See the flyer below for more details

Coach Jim Stroker

We are so excited to welcome Coach Jim Stroker to MJS on Wednesday January 10th. We will bring our whole school community together for this engaging presentation.  The main focus will be centered around Leadership and Decision Making. Coach Stroker's goals are to coach, inspire and lift our students while giving them the tools, tactics and strategies to become their best selves.

In addition to this whole school assembly, Coach Stroker will be with us in a virtual format. Over the next 4 months, Coach Stroker will provide video presentations that we will show each month that focus on important topics including: Decision Making, Self Advocacy, Reframing Problems as Possibilities, Healthy Habits, Integrity, Curiosity and Self Discipline.

In May we will have Coach Stroker back in person with our whole school community. This will be a culminating event celebrating the great work over the past months. This will include our students sharing with their classmates important takeaways and helping to answer the question: What does it mean to be a leader?

Winter Pep Rally

On Friday January 26th we will host our Winter Pep Rally in the Auditorium. We will utilize game show style activities to engage our school community in a fun filled experience. In addition we will celebrate our winter sports of Basketball and Volleyball. It is also the perfect timing as second marking closes and third marking period begins, marking the halfway point of our school year. Our fall pep rally was a huge success so we are looking forward to our winter pep rally. It will be a great opportunity to bring our MJS community together in celebration, connection and fun!

School Wide Winter Dance

Get ready for the event of the year! Our School Wide Winter Dance is on Thursday February 1st from 6:00-8:00pm at MJS. This is an event that was proposed by a group of our students back in November and we are thrilled to be able to support this and make it happen!

The planning is underway and our Student Council is taking the lead on ensuring it will be a great time for all. In addition to the dancing, we will have other activities for students to enjoy. It is going to be an amazing night filled with music, laughter and great memories. More information will be coming out but please mark your calendars.
