MJS Weekly Reflection
October 30 - November 3
A fun filled week at MJS! Our students continue to engage in various experiences helping them learn and grow on their educational journey. I am proud of our students and the accomplishments they have made over the past two months. As we wrap up marking period 1 I want to say thank to our entire community (students, staff, families) for the dedication and support you bring to the overall learning experiences at MJS on a daily basis. Our learning community is a wonderful place and I am proud to be part of it!
Halloween
MJS was definitely in the Halloween spirit on Tuesday! Students and Staff were dressed up, which created a great Halloween vibe throughout the building. Check out the pictures below to see the great costumes!
Makerspace
Students working and collaborating on their Makerspace projects focused on the creation of catapults.
Halloween Door Decorating
Throughout the second half of October all homerooms engaged in a Door Decorating Contest with a Halloween theme. The doors were ready for Halloween, which was a great addition to the vibe at MJS on Halloween. The categories were scariest, funniest and movie theme. Everyone did an awesome job! Below is a sampling of great work done by our homerooms.
7th Grade Annual Cemetery Field Trip
All 7th Grade ELA classes took a trip to the Bottle Hill/Hillside Cemetery (across the street from MJS) on Thursday. They utilized excursion as the inspiration for an mini-historical fiction writing project. This outing is a guided tour led by local historian and Madison resident Scott Spelker, who will share information about Madison’s early settlers and notable headstones.

The Week Ahead
We have a shortened week due to the NJEA Convention. School will be in session Monday-Wednesday for single session days due to parent/teacher conferences. The school day will conclude at 12:25 for students and lunch will not be served this week.
We are excited to host our Veterans Day Celebration on Wednesday morning. We have an awesome agenda planned to honor our veterans who will be in attendance. There will be student speeches, student music performances, veteran speeches and we will be kicking off our Toys for Tots campaign. This celebration is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our students to witness what true sacrifice and service is.
If you or a family member is a Veteran please reach out to Mr. Sylvester (sylvesterl@madisonnjps.org as we would love to have you be part of this celebration.
Marking period 1 ends on Wednesday November 8th. Report cards will be released to families on Tuesday November 21st.
