MJS Weekly Reflection

November 13 - November 17

A special week we had at MJS with our Veterans Day Celebration. It was wonderful to bring our MJS ONE community together for this important celebration and I am so proud of our students for their engaging participation. This week started marking period 2 and our teachers continue to engage our students with amazing content and learning experiences. Our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences were a success. The time with families during conferences continues to build our collaborative community helping our students to learn and grow.

Jets Flag Football and PE

In partnership with the Jets Flag Football program 10 of our 6th grade students had the opportunity on Tuesday to represent Madison Junior School in a flag football tournament at the Jets practice facility. Our students had a great time at the Jets facility and the group went undefeated. Brielle Amiro and E’son Stokes were chosen to lead the Jets out onto the field against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday December 3rd. Thank you to our PE department for providing this awesome opportunity for our students. Thank you to our 6th grade students for representing MJS well!

Veterans Day Celebration

We had an amazing Veterans day celebration on Wednesday! 25 Veterans were in attendance and we had the opportunity to honor their service during this whole school assembly. Along with beautiful patriotic music performed by our student ensembles we had four students and one of our veterans speak about what Veterans Day meant to them. In addition our Student Council kicked off our first community service project of the year, Toys for Tots. After the assembly our Veterans were able to enjoy breakfast and had a chance to talk with some of our members of Student Council. Our students walked away having a stronger understanding and appreciation of what true service is.

Snapshots from MJS

Turk-a-Teacher

Which teacher will wear our turkey costume this year? Students can purchase a feather for a dollar and whichever teacher has the most feathers gets to wear the turkey costume this Wednesday! All proceeds will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.

Visual Art at MJS

Our students within our Visual Art Department are so creative. Here is a sampling of the wonderful work that is done by our students throughout the school year. Thank you to Ms. Fiedler for sharing her passion and love for Visual Art with her students!

Lost and Found

Over the past 2 1/2 months our lost and found table has gathered many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time this week to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.

The Week Ahead

This coming week is a short week, however we are excited to continue our team building day tradition, which will be this Wednesday November 22nd. This is an opportunity for each grade level to spend time as a grade engaging in various activities around team building. Our 6th grade will stay at MJS and will be working with our high school students on various activities. Our 7th grade will be going to the Madison YMCA where they have a great program of activities planned. Our 8th grade will go to Hanover Lanes for a morning of bowling. We will start the morning with a locker clean out for all grade levels. Please have your child bring their backpack on Wednesday so they can bring any items home after their locker cleanout. Additional information will be provided with a little more detail about the schedule for the day prior to Wednesday.
