MJS Weekly Reflection

January 8 - January 12

It was an exciting week filled with lots of energy and enthusiasm! Our Dress for the Decades Spirit week was a hit, Coach Stroker shared a powerful presentation and our Band department had a beautiful concert! Our classrooms continue to be filled with engaging activities that inspire our students, helping them to learn and grow. As we approach the middle of the school year, I am proud of the progress our entire school community has made and look forward to continued success!

Dress for the Decades Spirit Week

We had a lot of fun dressing for the decades at MJS. Along with great attire we had great music and dancing happening in the mornings! Thank you to our Conflict Resolution club for organizing this spirit week.

Coach Jim Stroker

Coach Jim Stroker presented to our entire MJS community on Thursday morning. It was a powerful presentation that focused on leadership and decision making. Instead of me sharing takeaways from the presentation, below are various responses we received from our students when we asked them what their takeaway were from the presentation.

We are looking forward to our partnership with Coach Stroker in the coming months as we continue to build our MJSONE community.

A big thank you to our PTO and the District for their support in funding this presentation and the work we will be doing with Coach Stroker in the coming months!

"To never give up no matter the circumstances and to always believe in yourself."

"To be a leader you must never think that it is just another ordinary day but as a chance to help other people."

"To be kind and not to take out my anger on someone else. And to always be grateful."

"My one takeaway from the assembly was when Coach Stroker opened up the dictionary and "impossible" was nowhere to be found. This really boosted my mindset and will help me achieve my goals going forward."

"You can only control your own reaction and response."

"I learned that it's not the events that determine your life, it's the way you react to those events that determines your life."

"I have to be a leader in this world."

"Never give up no matter how life gets."

"It is your reaction that dictates an event, not the event itself."

"It was heart warming and motivational. It taught me that I should follow my dreams."

"To Show up and decide to do your best work, even if its hard."

"I learned that it is very good to be a positive person who tries to make other peoples days better. I also learned that if you go for things you can most likely do good with them."

"There will be many tough moments in life, but you decide if they affect you in a positive or negative way."

"Whatever happens in life there will always be bad times but you have to work through the tough times since there will always be good times after."

"Nothing is impossible and if you believe, you can accomplish great things"

"One fact or lesson I learned is although everyone has problems, there are always ways to get through them even when they are hard to. You should never give up."

"It's not what the world does to you it's how you respond to what the world does to you."

"My one takeaway from this assembly was that Coach Jim Stroker did a great job saying persist when things are hard, and keep going with a good attitude"

"This speaker changed my life greatly by telling us to be our best self and to look at things differently. Instead of looking at it as a problem you can look at it as an opportunity, I think this is very important for us middle schoolers."

MJS Band Concert

On Thursday night we came together as a community to celebrate our Music Department with our Band concert. Our students did an amazing job and the night was filled with beautiful music. Thank you to our Band Directors, Mr. Sabatino and Mr. Rossi for sharing their love of music with our students and helping them grow as musicians. Thank you to our families for all you do behind the scenes to support your children in their passion to follow their musical journey. Congratulations to our students and directors for a wonderful concert!

The Week Ahead

We look forward to another great week at MJS. We have a few school wide events coming up that we continue to plan for with our students. Second marking period is quickly coming to close and before we know it, we will be at the halfway mark of the school year. We have two home basketball games this week on Tuesday and Friday along with our AMC8 Math contest on Thursday. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!

Additional Information/Upcoming Events

School Wide Winter Dance

Get ready for the event of the year! Our School Wide Winter Dance is on Thursday February 1st from 6:00-8:00pm at MJS. This is an event that was proposed by a group of our students back in November and we are thrilled to be able to support this and make it happen!

The planning is underway and our Student Council is taking the lead on ensuring it will be a great time for all. In addition to the dancing, we will have other activities for students to enjoy. It is going to be an amazing night filled with music, laughter and great memories. Mark your calendars!

Be on the lookout for more detailed information coming out this week!

Winter Pep Rally (*Change of Date*)

On Friday February 2nd we will host our Winter Pep Rally in the Auditorium. We will utilize game show style activities to engage our school community in a fun filled experience. In addition we will celebrate our winter sports of Basketball and Volleyball. It is also the perfect timing as second marking closes and third marking period begins, marking the halfway point of our school year. Our fall pep rally was a huge success so we are looking forward to our winter pep rally. It will be a great opportunity to bring our MJS community together in celebration, connection and fun!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found continues to gather many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time to continue to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.
