MJS Weekly Reflection

September 26-29

It was a wonderful week at MJS! As we bring closure to the first month of the school year I want to say thank you to all of our families for the support they have given their children and MJS as we began this school year. I am so proud of everyone at MJS and seeing our students and staff throughout the building is always a highlight of my day. Check out our reflections from the week!

Student Council Elections

On Friday morning our whole school came together in the Auditorium to listen to our President speeches for student council. The speeches were fabulous! Afterwards students went back to their homerooms to view the other candidate speeches followed by voting. By the end of the day we had our official Student Council 2023-2024! We are so proud of all the candidates who ran for an office. Everyone did an amazing job. We will be sharing our official Student Council Officers in the next newsletter.

6th Grade Social

Our 6th grade social was a huge success on Thursday! A big thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this wonderful event and for our amazing staff chaperones! Students had blast! Various activities included a DJ, photo booth, open gym, ice cream truck various outdoor games and snacks.

7th Grade ELA

In preparation for their first graded writing task, seventh grade ELA students explored a universally loved topic: ICE CREAM!  Using appropriate, compelling evidence, each student wrote a structured paragraph about the benefits of ice cream. Mrs. Henry, Mrs. Toto, Mrs. Gamba, and Ms. Sanches chose a top response from each class.  Winners were announced during lunch, and teachers treated each winner to ice cream. We are so very proud of ALL our seventh grade writers!

6th Grade Science Weather Stations

Students in our 6th grade science classes had opportunities this week to begin exploring weather stations. Thank you Ms. Angelli and Ms. DeRosa for providing these engaging experiences for our students!

Connect and Reflect with Mr. Perrone

Thank you to all of our families who came out to our first Connect and Reflect with Mr. Perrone on Friday virtually and in person. It was great hearing a reflection from our 6th grade team leaders on the first month of school and sharing what is coming up in 6th grade. I enjoyed having an open conversation with our families regarding various questions around our school community. We will plan to have 3 more gatherings throughout the school year. It is important for me to stay connected with our families as we are all here together helping our students learn and grow. Please continue to reach out at anytime during the school year.

The Week Ahead

We kick off the first week of October with Week of Respect. This week affords an opportunity for districts and schools to focus instructional efforts and programs geared toward the prevention of harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) as they work toward creating environments that are welcoming and supportive places for all to learn.

MJS ONE aligns perfectly with Week of Respect. We have set the bar to be One Inclusive Community Helping Each Learn and Grow. We want every single person in our building feeling valued and respected as an individual. During this week we will have various school wide activities to bring awareness including: Spirit Week, daily morning announcements, a whole school advisory lesson and our first pep rally of the school year!
