MJS Weekly Reflection
April 8 - 12
Coming up for AIR assembly for 8th Grade
We had the opportunity to once again bring back the AIR presentation for our 8th grade students and families.
The AIR™ presentation is mental health education geared towards students, middle school through college age. Tricia Baker came to MJS on Monday April 8th to speak with our 8th grade students.
High School Counselors Meet with 8th Grade
On Tuesday, our HS counseling department came to MJS to meet with our 8th grade students to talk about the elective options they have available to them at MHS as well as sharing information about the overall scheduling process.
As a reminder the elective google form for students to choose electives is due by Tuesday April 16th.
Starting next Thursday, our 8th grade students will have their counselor meeting to meet their HS counselor and to start planning their journey at MHS.
Whole School Meeting
It’s amazing to think we have only 46 days left of school! On Wednesday morning, I had the opportunity to bring our whole school community together in the auditorium to discuss some areas that I felt we needed to discuss as we transition into marking period 4. In closing, I presented our Random Acts of Kindness Challenge to our students. Starting on Monday, over the next 6 weeks we will be looking for random acts of kindness from our entire student body. Our goal is to observe 1200 random acts of kindness. I shared what will happen if we reach our goal but I will leave that to the students to share with you at home.
District Band Night at MHS
On Wednesday night, our MJS band program joined the MHS band program for a District Band Concert at MHS. Prior to the concert our combined 7th and 8th grade band had the opportunity to rehearse with composer, Cliff Bialkin, who composed Madison March. Madison March was the finale piece for the concert where MJS, MHS and Harding joined together to play as one. It was a wonderful night to celebrate all of the great things happening within our band program! Great job to all students and directors!
Security Vestibule Construction Progress
The Security Vestibule is just about complete! A few technical adjustments and it will be ready to go!
Best Communities for Music Education
For the thirteenth time, the Madison Public Schools have been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded nationally to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement for providing music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the district had to supply information regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
Morning Hoops at MJS
There is still space to join our new Morning Hoops program at MJS. If you child is interested please click this link to fill out the permission slip. Check out the information on the flyer below. Hope to you see you at Morning Hoops!
Important Information
Technology Reminder about Student Chromebook Usage
In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
