MJS Weekly Reflection

December 11 - December 15

We had an awesome week waltzing into Winter with our Spirit Week! The energy within our building is filled with excitement and joy as we welcome in the holiday season and get ready for winter break. I am so proud of how far our MJS ONE Community has come in the past four months. Along with all of the amazing academic success our students are experiencing, we are building a strong community which continues to help each other learn and grow. Our teachers continue to amaze me with their passion and dedication in providing engaging and authentic learning experiences for our students. The support from our families is an important piece and we are grateful for the time and dedication our families bring to the daily education of their children. Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season with family and friends!

Toys for Tots at MJS

A huge thank you to our MJS ONE community for their involvement in our Toys for Tots Community Service Project. Together as a community we collected over 650 unwrapped toys to help those families who are financially struggling to pay for basic needs. On Thursday we loaded up the toys and delivered them to Staff Sgt Porter at the Picatinny Arsenal.

A big thank you to our Student Council who took the lead on organizing and coordinating this community service project. Thank you also to Mr. Sylvester, Ms. Siso and Ms. Kolinchak for their part in making this a great success. This is a special moment for MJS where we can celebrate giving back as a community to an important cause. I am proud and grateful for our MJS community. Great work everyone!

November Leaders of the Month

On Thursday we had the opportunity to celebrate our November Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS One Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

Orchestra and Chorus Concert

On Thursday night we came together as a community to celebrate our Music Department with our Orchestra and Chorus concerts. Our students did an amazing job and the night was filled with beautiful music to help us get into the holiday spirit. Thank you to our Orchestra Director, Ms. McCormick and our Chorus Director, Mr. Mallick for sharing their love of music with our students and helping them grow as musicians. As a musician myself, music has always played a special role in my life and it brought me great joy to listen to our students make music together. Thank you to our families for all you do behind the scenes to support your children in their passion to follow their musical journey. Congratulations to our students and directors for two great concerts!!

MJS Band Program

Our Band Department continues to prepare for their Winter Concert will be on Thursday January 11th at 7:00pm. We are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful music prepared by our students and directors. Here is our 6th grade band during one of their rehearsals this week. Our groups are sounding great!

Connect & Reflect with Mr. Perrone

Connection and reflection continue to be two important parts of MJS ONE. It is important for me to stay connected with our families as each of you play an important role in your child’s education. I am excited to host our second Connect and Reflect session with our families. This will provide an opportunity for families to come together with me in person or virtually to connect and reflect on any topics relating to MJS.

Our Guidance Counselors will also be present during this time to share all the wonderful ways our counselors support our students throughout the school year.

We will host our second Connect and Reflect with Mr. Perrone on Tuesday December 19th at 8:30am in the MJS Media Center.

The Week Ahead

We are excited to continue to Waltz into Winter 2023 with our Spirit Week. On Friday our students and staff will participate in the TikTok trend "Anything But a Backpack." This is a day where students and staff bring anything but a backpack to school to carry their stuff. This idea was brought to us by our Student Council Executive Board and we are excited to bring it to MJS. Below are guidelines that we have created to ensure our students have a safe and fun day on Friday. We will be sharing this with our students throughout the upcoming week.

We are also looking forward to our Music Department Holiday concert on Friday where we will bring our whole school together to enjoy some holiday music before we leave for winter break.

Over the past 3 months our lost and found table has gathered many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item.
