MJS Weekly Reflection
October 23-27
Our MJS One community continues to learn and grow together. October has been filled with so many opportunities to engage in activities and events that brings us closer together as a community. I am honored to be serving as the Acting Principal of MJS and to experience the level of energy, passion and enthusiasm throughout the hallways/classrooms of MJS. We truly have a great community and I look forward to continued success this school year!
8th Grade VoTech Presentation
Our 8th Grade students had an opportunity on Wednesday to engage in a conversation during an assembly with the Morris County Vocational School District. VoTech offers a variety of CTE programs which our 8th grade students were able to learn about during this assembly. Applications are now open until November 27th.
Spanish Novice Class
Our Spanish Novice classes collaborated this week on a Dia de los Muertos cultural craft which included the creation of cempasúchil (marigolds). All students did an amazing job collaborating and helping each other. A great learning experience for our students!
Carving Pumpkins
Our Green Team Club, led by Ms. Marotta and Ms. Nering invited members of our MJS community to a pumpkin carving activity after school on Thursday. It was a great turn out! Thank you to the PTO for their support in getting the pumpkins. Our courtyard is currently going through a beautiful transformation led by our Green Team.
7th/8th Grade Halloween Dance
Everyone had an awesome time at our 7th/8th Grade Halloween Dance on Friday. There was dancing, a photo booth, inflatable games, snacks and a lot of fun! It was great to see everyone in costumes and having a great time throughout the event. As the Acting Principal, I am really proud of our MJS community and how our students participated in a safe, positive and respectful way.
Thank you to our staff who chaperoned the event along with our Parent chaperone volunteers. Thank you also to our PTO for coordinating the decorations and snacks. A big thank you to Ms. Siso, Ms. Kolinchak and the Student Council for organizing a wonderful event for our students!
Rehearsals began this week for our Fall Play!
The Week Ahead
As we prepare for Halloween on Tuesday please be reminded of the following costume guidelines:
Students are not permitted to wear masks/face coverings or bring any physical props
Inflatable costumes are allowed as long as the child's face is showing. If the inflatable costume creates a distraction/disruption to instruction or creates a safety concern, the child will be asked to change out of the inflatable costume.
Minimal face paint is allowed but it has to be done at home and not in school
Costumes must be in good taste and school appropriate following the District Dress Code
We look forward to another great week at MJS!

In Our Community
On October 23, a ceremony took place at the Madison Mayor's office giving a proclamation that officially designating October 2023 as Hindu Heritage Month. One of our MJS students, Mahi Bhatt, had the privilege of representing the Hindu Indian community of Madison and delivering an acceptance speech on this occasion. As quoted by Mahi's mom, "There is immense pride in being part of a community and school district that wholeheartedly embraces the values of acceptance and inclusion for individuals from all religious backgrounds."
