MJS Weekly Reflection

October 9-13

This was an awesome week! We started with an engaging professional day on Monday and ended with an absolutely amazing Pep Rally on Friday. Our students are settled into the school year and are doing great things. Our staff continue to impress me everyday with the passion they bring to our building for our students. It was great to see the team spirit among students and staff wearing their designated colors on Friday. Thank you to our students and staff for bringing the school spirit on Friday and making our Pep Rally an experience no one will forget!

Professional Day October 9

On October 9th, our teachers and staff engaged in a full day of professional development. The focus was on resources that will assist in the planning for the teaching and learning for our students as well as a focus on the health and safety for all. Conversations in the morning were led by some of our teachers, which was wonderful to see. In the afternoon, teachers spent time in smaller groups to take what was learned and develop it for their specific grade levels and content. It is always great to come together on days like this to take a moment to reflect on the great work that is already being done and work on ways to refine it to make it even better. Our teachers work so hard everyday providing amazing educational experiences for your children and I am so proud of each and everyone one of them. They truly make MJS a great place to learn and grow.

8th Grade Health

Mr. Veiga engaged 8th grade health students in conversation and activities about ways alcohol can impair physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Officer Frank was a special guest for the class to engage in these conversations. Students participated in a DUI activity during class. Mr. Sylvester tried the activity too! Thank you Mr. Veiga for providing these opportunities for our students in order to help promote positive decision making.

ELA 7

Students engaged in a RACECER elements activity. Students identified the elements of a strong smooth flowing paragraph by working together. It is always great to see our students engaging in collaborative activities within the classroom. Thank you Ms. Toto, Ms. Henry and Ms. Gamba for providing wonderful learning experiences in our ELA classroom!

Bulletin Board Displays

Throughout the first month and a half, the bulletin boards throughout the hallways of MJS have been filling up with inspiring and uplifting information. Thank you to our staff who took the initiative to fill these bulletin boards. It adds to our MJS ONE community and I am so thankful for their work. Here are just some examples of the great work being done within our hallways. Our staff are the best!

Pep Rally at MJS

It was an absolute beautiful day outside for our first Pep Rally at MJS. During our Pep Rally we were able to bring excitement and enthusiasm for all of our athletic teams including Rec Football, Soccer and Cross Country as well as our MJSAO Soccer and Cross Country teams. Our student athletes felt the energy and excitement from MJS.

We also had competition during our Pep Rally including tug of war and a dance competition. The MJS ONE Community was in full action during our Pep Rally. I am proud of our students on how they participated during this great event. It was awesome to see our entire MJS community out on the field engaging in an event that brought us closer together as community and showed the true spirit of MJS.

We look forward to hosting additional events like this throughout the school year. MJS is an awesome community!

The Week Ahead

We are looking forward to another great week at MJS. The third Monday in October is annually designated as “School Violence Awareness Week” in the State of New Jersey. School Violence Awareness Week provides an opportunity for districts and schools to bring staff, students, parents, and law enforcement together, actively engaging in the vital work of violence prevention and school safety enhancement. At MJS we will be planning and engaging in activities throughout this week around this important topic.
