DAY 0 - PACKING AND THINKING
Today, I reflected on the importance of dedicating my free time to continuous improvement as a teacher. Although it requires effort and sacrifice, I believe that approaching it with enthusiasm is key. Balancing my professional development with family time is essential, as I cherish moments with my loved ones while pursuing my passion for learning. Engaging in this journey also allows me to meet new people and build future networks, particularly as I explore Maltese culture and education. Ultimately, while the path of improvement may be challenging, the rewards are invaluable, and I’m committed to enjoying every step of the way.
DAY 1- TRAVELLING & UNPACKING
First day! Malta waiting to welcome me and my family for a few days. Beautiful landscapes, great weather in the Mediterranean coast and... here I am, eager to meet people, practice and learn from this experience!
Though it is Sunday, we went for a walk near the beach. The water was BOILING HOT!
DAY 1 - COURSE
BRUSH UP YOUR TEACHING TECHNIQUES
We started our course on "Brush up your teahching techniques" by introducing each other through speaking activies, dealing with warmers, fillers, coolers and some vocabulary games. My favourite is a challenge for you!
Sightseeing is a must when you visit new countries. In this case, MALTA is an amazing city to fall in love with.
Can you name some of the places in the pictures?
DAY 2 - DRAMA & ROLE PLAYING
I found today's idea refreshing and amazing. One of students' greatest mental blocks is SPEAKING. In today's session, we discussed about the different sources of inspiration when dealing with drama and we were given a challenge that I pass on to you:
Choose a part you would like to play at a party. Make sure your body, gestures, intonation, etc. goes with it.
DAY 3 - PROVERBS
PROVERBS. HOW WOULD YOU TEACH THEM?
. Recreate order/split them up.
. Mime/draw.
. Create a story to explain the origin.
. Find the equivalent in your language .
. Debate with examples of the best idiom and the most used today.
. Recreate meaning and recreate it to use it.
CULTURE AND PLACES TO VISIT
Popeye village
Esplora Interactive Science Centre
Playmobil Funpark
St Paul's Catacombs
DAY 4 - MISTAKES
PROVERBS. HOW WOULD YOU TEACH THEM?
Dealing with mistakes is an important issue as teachers.
On the one hand students might feel ashamed to speak or write if they are constantly aware or interrupted.
On the other hand, they have to be spotted to be able to polish them or erradicate them.
Some tips:
Written.
Give them a sheet of paper. Like a rubric.
Spoken.
Gestures to help with mistakes.
Sounds category game.
A maze like this, easily replaceable by other sentences.
DAY 5 - FAREWELL!!
WIKIS. A world to explore from a teachers pointview. For example to write a for and against essay.
Some interesting sites to explore are:
pbwiki.com
Wetpaint.com
Wiki spaces.com
A wiki is a website or database developed collaboratively by a community of users, allowing any user to add and edit content.
Advantages
Accesible
Collaborative
Disseminates information effective
Teach how use it as a tools. You’ll loose your own point of view
For ex. Write a for and against essay. 4 paragraphs, use linkers, use this or that tense, include this or that…
Learn it by heart and recite it, but they have to be aware.
FAREWELL!!
