Acting 11

MDRM-11-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: Introduction to Stage or extra-curricular performance experience


Students in this class will be responsible for mounting the Children's Theatre Production in December which includes performing during the evening and the school day to a paying audience. Students will gain experience in the rehearsal process, working as an ensemble and overcoming the unique challenges of performing live in front of a young audience. This course provides opportunities for students to develop their acting skills, specifically using their vocal and physical skills to enhance characterization.

Acting 12

MDRM-12-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: Acting 11 or extra-curricular performance

Students in this class will be responsible for mounting the Senior Theatre Production in late May which involves completing a five-evening run to a paying audience. Students will gain experience in the rehearsal process, working as an ensemble and overcoming the challenges of live performance. Technical Theatre 11 and 12

MDRTP11-4S / MDRTP12-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: None


This course is designed for senior students who are interested in and have shown aptitude for technical theatre. Students will work alongside the Acting 11 or 12 students and provide the technical support for the semester's theatre production. Opportunities will be provided for design – set and lighting/sound – as well as experience in working with props, costumes and make-up. Students will also be responsible for operating technical equipment during performances and working as backstage crew and/or front-of-house.

Musical Theatre- Performance

Prerequisite: None

The show must go on! If you love to perform and are especially interested in musical theatre, this course is for you! This course runs outside of the timetable on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. The course begins in September and ends in March (just before Spring Break). The course culminates in a Musical Production that runs one week (including a preview performance / dress rehearsal and four evening shows). This course is timetabled alongside the Musical Theatre (Technical) class. Students will be immersed in all aspects of musical theatre performance.

Musical Theatre- Technical

MMUTH11-4S-T / MMUTH12-4S -P Credits: 4

Prerequisite: None

This course runs outside of the timetable on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. The course begins in September and ends in March (just before Spring Break). The course culminates in a Musical Production that runs for one week (which includes one preview performance / dress rehearsal and four evening shows). This course is timetabled alongside the Musical Theatre (Performance) class. Students are responsible for all aspects of Technical Stage Production including lighting design and operation, sound effects, props, set design, construction and painting, publicity, front-of-house and backstage crew.

Dance 11 - Technique and Performance

Prerequisite: None

This course is structured for students who wish to experience a variety of dance styles and genres from historical and contemporary cultures. Students will explore the relationship between body conditioning and somatic approaches to technical and expressive skills in dance as well as demonstrate kinaesthetic awareness of dance elements and techniques. All students will participate in a semester end show. Please note that it is recommended that students wishing to take this course have completed Dance 10.

Dance 12 - Technique and Performance

MDNTP12-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: None

This course is structured for students who wish to experience a variety of dance styles and genres through the exploration of various contexts, periods and cultures. Students will develop an articulate and expressive movement quality through anatomically and developmentally sound principles. Students will explore movement, sound, image, and form to convey meaning in dance. All students will participate in a semester end show. Please note that it is recommended that students wishing to take this course have completed Dance 11.

Dance Company 11 / 12

MDNCM11-4S / MDNCM12-4S Credits: 4

Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation

This course is designed for the advanced dancer (a dancer who has accelerated in the school's program or actively dances outside of school). A dancer in this course must be able to properly execute fundamental dance techniques in a variety of genres of dance in order to keep up with the pace of the course. Students will create, rehearse, refine, and perform choreographic works for a variety of purposes and contexts while refining an articulate body as an instrument of expression.
