In order to meet graduation requirements, all Grade 11 students are required to complete Career Life Connections 12A and Career Life Connections 12A: Explorations.

Work Experience is an optional course credit.

The course focuses on guiding students to positively market and brand themselves; to identify their unique strengths, skills and interests with relation to transferable skills and job readiness. Students will use various digital tools to explore education and career pathways.

Career Life Connections 12A: Explorations

Students will utilize inquiry processes to explore an area of interest or passion that could support their Capstone presentation. Students will be invited to identify an areas of interest or passion, will be guided through the development of their inquiry question, and supported by their teacher and peers as they seek to respond to their inquiry questions. Inquiries will be student driven and teacher supported.

Work Experience 12A and 12B

Pre-requisite: none

The primary goal of work experience is to help students prepare for the transition from secondary school to the world of work. Goals include helping students to: · Connect what they learn in the classroom with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in the workplace · Gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to be successful in the world of work · Develop job readiness skills for specific occupations and careers · Understand the similarities and differences in behaviour standards between the workplace and school

REQUIREMENTS TO EARN CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Register your work experience placement(s) with the Career Center. ·

  • Work Experience 12 A – Accumulate at least 100 hours of paid or unpaid work experience.

  • Work Experience 12 B – Students need to accumulate another 100 hours beyond what they used for Work Experience A.

  • Complete a post-work experience evaluation and report and submit it to Mr. Charland. Work Experience is available to Grades 10 & 11 as well. For more information, see the Career Centre.
